A 499 Wh pack, independent spring suspension at both ends, 9-inch tubeless tires and a four-hour charge — the quickest in this catalog's commuter class by a clear margin. Twin headlights and configurable ambient lighting make it unusually visible at night, which matters more on a commute than most spec-sheet features. The compromises are the ones Varla makes throughout: no app at all, an IP54 splash rating, and a 19% rated slope that is modest for 500 watts. At 50 pounds it is also heavy for the battery it carries, which is the price of the suspension. If your route is flat, well lit and short, the fast charge is the feature that will change your week.
